New Laundry Room
Our wish? A better way to do our laundry. Our goal is to convert our old kitchen that’s no longer being utilized, into a laundry room.
Our objectives are to provide and efficient and effective laundry process that:
Doesn’t require physical burden on our workers
Makes washing the clothes faster
Provides a designated place for our laundry workers to do the laundry.
The equipment and set up for efficient work which will be equipped with a washing machine, folding/ironing tables, laundry baskets
Provide a place for workers to store their personal belongings and clothes
We have 2 Hope Center workers, Florence and Prossy, who’s full time position at the Hope Center Uganda is washing, rinsing, hanging and ironing clothes, blankets, rags, towels and bedding. They do this bent-over at the waist for hours each day, scrubbing the clothes by hand in short basins with water and powdered laundry soap. From there, they hang the wash out to dry and iron everything.
The Details
The total cost for this project will be about $2,700. That includes: a brand new washing machine, running electricity to the room, plumbing, laundry baskets, lockers for the workers, new flooring, curtains, painting, wooden tables, and all the labor to get the new room up and running!
We are asking for your help to make this dream a reality and help give our hard-working staff a boost! If you would like to support this project, please donate using the form on this page.
This room used to be, at one point, the kitchen for the center. During a project last year, we built a whole new kitchen that works so much better for the Center. Our plan is to transform this room in the new laundry room and break room for our amazing staff!
Laundry Statistics: In 1 day, we can estimate washing:
30-35 baby blankets
40 bed sheets
75 onesies
25 sets of clothing (shorts, shirts, pants, dresses)
30 towels
